THE CHALLENGE
Relaunch Union Summer with Union Station as the Central Hub
Union Summer, Toronto’s signature outdoor summer venue with food, bars, and concerts was set to return in full force after a COVID absence. This was the opportunity for Union Station to welcome visitors back with a new and exciting experience. Union Station sought to renovate its outdoor food facilities in a way that both excited guests and would last for the long haul.
Integral to addressing that challenge was accounting for the variance of Ontario weather, upgrading the space in a way that thrilled guests during peak seasons yet could be tucked away with ease when not in use.
THE SOLUTION
A new approach that combined sunshine and style
Impact XM designed and installed a pressure-treated wood structure to replace the previous installation of now-aged pergolas. The materials were chosen for their higher tolerance to outdoor conditions and were designed to be easily stored securely in the offseason.
A combination of clear and opaque ceiling tiles creates a captivating design aesthetic while also giving guests ample choice to be in the warmth of the sun or the comfort of the shade. Bringing outside elements inside melds the best of the Toronto summer with Union Station’s unique character.
